Senior film and theatre actor Vijay Chavan, who was known for comic roles, breathed his last at Fortis Hospital in Mumbai on Friday morning after a prolonged illness. The 63-year-old versatile actor was suffering from liver infection. He acted in more than 350 Marathi and Hindi films.
Chavan became a familiar name in Marathi industry with his portrayal the female character of ‘Maavshi’ in famous Marathi play Moruchi Maavshi. He entered the Marathi film industry in 1985 with his first film Vahinichi Maya.
The other well-known Marathi films Chavan acted in were Jatra, Maherchi Saree, Zapatlela, Yeu Ka Gharat, Gholat Ghol, Pachhadlela, Bharat Aala Parat, Mumbaicha Dabewala, Aali Lahar Kela Kahar, and Shrimant Damodar Pant. Chavan also acted in many plays and television serials.
Chavan was conferred the Chitrapati V Shantaram Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar a few months back.
