Prasad Namjoshi’s Rangaa Patangaa won the Marathi Competition of 14th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) by claiming the prestigious Sant Tukaram Best Marathi Film and Best Direction (Prasad Namjoshi) awards.
Produced by Amol Vasant Gole, Rangaa Patangaa’s story has been written by Chinmay Patankar while its screenplay and dialogues have been written by director Prasad Namjoshi.
As its synopsis says, Rangaa Patangaa is a simple tale of companionship; of Jumman’s companionship with his wife Noor, with his cattle and also with fellow farmer, Popat. The film talks about a farmer’s struggle. Jumman, who has been treating his bullocks as his own children, finds them absconding from the shed on one fateful day. Thus starts the farmer’s journey in search of his bullocks. It becomes an issue and takes a political turn with the media that has come to cover drought, finds a ‘story’ in Jumman’s lost bullocks.
Shot in Goregaon village in Murtijapur tehsil of Akola district, and also in Pune and Mumbai; the film stars Makarand Anaspure, Sandeep Pathak, Nandita Dhuri, Suhas Palshikar, Bharat Ganeshpure, Gauri Konge, Abhay Mahajan, Hardik Joshi and Anand Kulkarni.
