Meliorist Film Studio is producing Marathi feature film Jayanti in commemoration of 125th birth anniversary of greatest Indian scholar and architect of the Constitution of India, Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. Written and directed by Shailesh Narwade, Jayanti is a contemporary social drama that tells the story of a youth named Santosh Kamble.
Many filmmakers have earlier attempted to show Dr Ambedkar’s life and works. Jayanti is different from all those films because it is not a biopic of Dr Ambedkar but a film that shows the present-day picture of Bahujan community. Jayanti is scheduled to release in April 2016 across Maharashtra and selected cities in the other States too.
“On 14 April 2016, the world will be celebrating 125th birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The anniversary celebrations are getting bigger and bigger every year, but ironically the thoughts of the champion of social justice are being ignored or manipulated day by day. And without blaming others for this situation, I strongly believe that rather than falling prey to emotional Ambedkarism, the Bahujan society should first correctly understand the legend and then propagate his wise and visionary thoughts,” said Shailesh Narwade, the film’s writer-director while elaborating on the film’s subject.
He added, “Jayanti is our sincere effort to unlock the secret behind Dr Ambedkar’s slogan of ‘Educate, Organize, and Agitate’ – that can pave way for the progress and prosperity of not only different communities but also the entire nation.”
Being produced by Meliorist Film Studio in association with Filmdukes Media Wave Pvt Ltd, Jayanti is currently in its production stage. Sanket Galactus is the Director of Cinematography and the film will be edited by Prajakt Rebeloma. Milind Hemane is the production manager while Rohit Badgujar is the film’s chief assistant director.
