Actress Kranti Redkar, who starred in popular Marathi films like Kedar Shinde’s Jatra, Mahesh Manjrekar’s Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho, Ankush Choudhary’s No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahe, Gajendra Ahire’s Pipani, and Kedar Shinde’s upcoming film Kho-Kho, has taken up the challenge of sporting the director’s hat. She is presently busy directing her first-as-a-director Marathi film Kaakan, a period love-story based in 1970s.

“Actually, direction was nowhere in my mind. I was just writing the script and wishing someone else to make a film on it. But when I narrated Kaakan to my family, my father insisted me to take up direction. He said when I have written the story, only I could do justice to the film. This is how I decided to turn to direction,” Kranti said while talking to Rang Marathi.

On her experience so far as the team’s captain, Kranti said, “The entire process has been an easy-going for me because of my friendship with all in the industry. I have received very good support from all the friends. Apart from this, being the writer of the film also helped me a lot. I think, for me, Kaakan is a right decision taken at the right time.”

Why Jitendra Joshi and Urmila Kanetkar in the lead? “When I was writing the script, I could imagine only these two actors playing the respective roles. So the decision to cast both of them was made at the scripting stage,” Kranti Redkar explained.

Kaakan’s first-schedule shooting is currently going on. “If the production and post-production goes as per the schedule, we are planning to release the film in August,” Kranti said.
