As its release date is nearing with each passing day, Marathi film Anumati, one of the most-anticipated films of the year, is garnering more and more appreciation from all corners of the world. The film has just won Best Film and Best Actor (Vikram Gokhale) awards at the recently concluded 13th New York Indian Film Festival in the United States.

Earlier, Vikram Gokhale won the prestigious National Award for Best Actor. Besides, Anumati was adjudged Best Film (Audience Choice) and its director Gajendra Ahire as Best Director at the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). The film has also been screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival.

Rang Marathi talked to the film’s producer, Vinay Ganu, who actually made Anumati a reality.

“So many awards and appreciation before the film’s release itself show that we were headed in the right direction,” Vinay said while accepting wishes for the latest bunch of awards.

Vinay Ganu founded his own production house Sri Pant Productions during his first project titled Vacation. But his responsibility in the project was limited to financing. With Anumati, he made sure he had actual involvement right from story selection to casting to shooting and post-production.

“I had met Gajendra Ahire for some other project. He had come to my office. That time he told a few stories. Anumati was one of them and it instantly won my heart. Later I narrated the story to others also and got similar opinions from them. This is how I decide to produce the film. Our team had fully committed itself to the project, and gifted actors like Vikram Gokhale made it an easy going for all of us,” Vinay informed.

Produced by Vinay Ganu’s Shree Pant Productions, Anumati is a joint presentation of Navalakha Arts and Holy Basil Productions. The film has been directed by Gajendra Ahire and features talented actors like Vikram Gokhale, Reema Lagoo, Neena Kulkarni, Kishor Kadam, Sai Tamhankar and Subodh Bhave. Anumati is likely to release in around 100 screens across Maharashtra mostly with digital prints.

Anumati is an emotional film. Every person, irrespective of his or her social and economic status, visits a hospital at least once in the lifetime. We all have the experience of visiting a hospital for our dear ones, a family member or a close friend. We all go through the tense moments and have to make some hard decisions. Anumati is all about that and therefore I think it will touch everyone,” Vinay hoped.

Vinay Ganu has already completed shooting for his next project titled Postcard. The film, starring Dilip Prabhawalkar and Girish Kulkarni, has been directed by Gajendra Ahire. The film is in its post-production stage and will release probably during August-September this year.

“We want to make different and quality Marathi films. Vacation was a sensible production and Anumati has also proved its merits. We are not interested in mindless comedies. We want to keep making content-rich films. Gajendra Ahire has a lot of such unique subjects. We are also planning to start Jaambhul again with him,” Vinay Ganu stated.
