Samit Kakkad, the director of one of most-awaited Marathi films Aayna Ka Bayna, believes that only technology can’t make good films. “You can employ best of the technology but that alone can’t help you make good films. Technology, of course, enhances the standards of cinema, but a good film can only be a result of good script, no matter how big or small it is. And therefore I think Marathi filmmakers are doing a commendable job producing great films one after the other,” Samit observes.
Speaking to Rang Marathi, Samit points out that no advanced technology was available for filmmaking a few decades ago, but we still remember numerous films from that era because they were rich in content. “People say a film is made on the editing table. But I think a film is made on a paper,” he states.
Aayna Ka Bayna is a commercial Marathi film, in which different forms of dance have been beautifully used to tell a story. The Akshara Films Division presentation, starring Sachin Khedkar, Amruta Khanvilkar, Ganesh Yadav and Santosh Juvekar, has been produced by Amar Kakkad and Pushpa Kakkad. The film is slated to release in October 2012.
After Aayna Ka Bayna, Samit would be immediately starting his next film titled Uchlyaa, which is based on Laxman Gaikwad’s Marathi novel of the same title. Samit has bought the book rights from Gaikwad and has already done the film’s muhurt. “Later on, I will be making one woman-oriented film and an out-and-out action thriller,” he says.
“The process of filmmaking is very beautiful because you meet new people, you make new friends and you learn a lot from them every day. And when you see the first trailer of your film, you feel proud and happy. In the process, you learn that filmmaking is not a one man’s show. It’s always a team work,” says the passionate filmmaker.
Samit likes to watch films in almost all regional languages in India. Besides, he watches films from Iran, Japan, USA and Germany. Astitva, Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy and Huppa Huiyya are among his favourite Marathi films. Similarly, Bharat Jadhav, Siddharth Jadhav, Santosh Juvekar and Ankush Chaudhary are his favourite actors.
